About the lecture: The diagnosis of depression has become widespread in Primary Care and is often made swiftly, without the time necessary to learn more about the individual case. Exploring the lives of those who suffer from depression reveals a multitude of causes, often involving experiences of loss and unresolved grief. These may be distinguished from the surface symptoms of depression, indicating not only the variety of human responses to loss but also the range of therapeutic possibilities.
About the lecturer: Darian Leader is a psychoanalyst and a founder member of the Centre for Freudian Analysis and Research (CFAR) in London. He is the author of “Why do women write more letters than they post?”, “Promises lovers make when it gets too late”, “Freud's footnotes”, “Stealing the Mona Lisa”, and “Why do people get ill?”. His latest book is “The New Black: Mourning, melancholia and depression”. His latest two books have been very enthusiastically reviewed.
About the fee: Profits will be donated to the SIP subsidised Treatment and Training Fund.
