Courses in Psychoanalytic Concepts and Understanding
Short Courses offered
We offer a variety of courses. Click on the title for details.
- Introductory Course. A series of weekly lectures and seminars on psychoanalytic theories and concepts, extending over 2 terms of 10 evenings each.
- Observation Skills in the Workplace. A 10 week course following on from the Introductory Course in psychoanalytic Theories and Concepts.
- Pre-Clinical courses. We offer three courses, each of which can be taken as a stand alone course. If you complete all three courses you can then apply to the clinical training to become a psychoanalytic psychotherapist. Classical Theory and Work Discussion are pre-requisites for the 2 year training in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy.
The pre-clinical courses are:- Infant Observation: a two year course in which you observe a baby and their mother. During term time, you also attend weekly seminars. The seminars help you understand the observations using psychoanalytical thinking.
- Work Discussion: a one year course aimed at applying psychoanalytic thinking to observations of your work area. During term time, weekly seminars help you understand how feelings invoked inform your understanding.
- Classical Theory: A one year course with directed reading and seminars. The course examines Freud's writings.
