Training and Courses

Courses offered by SIP:

Clinical Training (full Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Training)

Training as a psychoanalytical psychotherapist has two phases. In the first, you take our three Pre-Clinical courses. In the second (“Clinical Training”), you attend further educational events, carry out supervised treatment of two patients, and have your own three times a week psychoanalytical psychotherapy.

Modified Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Training

This modified clinical training is for experienced psychoanalytic psychotherapists who would like to register with the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) and join SIP. Planned to start in January 2012.

It includes advanced theoretical and clinical seminars, and the supervised therapy of two patients.

Training as a therapist in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy

Our course in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy leads to membership of SIP and inclusion on the BPC Register of Psychodynamic Psychotherapists. It includes a 2 year programme of theoretical and clinical seminars, and undertaking supervised clinical work with patients, usually in once a week therapy. You must be in personal therapy, of at least twice weekly, for at a least one year before starting the course, and throughout the course.
